Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 win over Barton College on Saturday. After wrapping up USA South play on Friday, the Monarchs added another win against the NCAA Division II foe Bulldogs.
Methodist dominated the first half with seven shots to Barton's one and finally got on the board in the 31st minute when
Danielle Minichello passed from the left into
Lisa Paschal who drove a shot to the lower right corner for the 1-0 lead. The Monarchs looked to add a cushion in the second half and Minichello scored a goal of her own in the 65th minute when
Abbey Howe found
Christine Ellington on the right flank. Ellington crossed the ball into the 18 for Minichello to finish with the goal. The Monarchs finished it off with a third goal in the 71st minute.
Cassie Walter put a cross over the defense and waiting for
Kristin Habig to finish it in the back of the net.
Sara Altman and
Sarah Hayden combined for the shutout with one save apiece. Carson Moore had nine stops for Barton.
Methodist has clinched the No. 6 seed in the USA South Tournament, but awaits the result of Christopher Newport and Shenandoah Saturday night to know where they will play their first round game. If CNU wins, the Monarchs will travel to Averett, while if Shenandoah wins, Methodist will travel to Greensboro. Shenandoah and CNU kicked off at 7 p.m. and final seeding will be announced following the end of the game.
