CONWAY, S.C. - Methodist held the 17-14 lead midway through the first half, but Coastal Carolina went on a 14-0 run to take control. The Chanticleers led 48-32 at halftime and cruised to the 104-61 win.
The Monarchs do not open their regular season until Tuesday, but faced off against NCAA Division I Coastal Carolina on Saturday night.
Coastal opened up an 8-2 lead, but Methodist cut the lead to one after a layup from
Mark Jernigan and a 3-pointer by
James Whitehead. The Monarchs took their first lead of the game at 12-11 with another three from Whitehead. Methodist led by as many as three at 14-11 and 17-14, before the Chanitcleers took control and built a 16-point halfitme lead. Coastal went onto finish with the 104-61 victory.
Ten different players scored for Methodist led by
James Whitehead and
Mark Jernigan with 15 points apiece.
Joey Horne added six points and a team-high six rebounds.
Chris Gradnigo paced the Chanticleers with 23 points and eight rebounds.
Methodist will officially kick off the 2011-12 season at Guilford College Tuesday at 7 p.m.
