Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team set the tone early in their season opener with the 12-0 lead through the first six minutes. The Monarchs (1-0) went on to win 66-36 over Salem College (0-1).
Christina Schrader started things off for Methodist with the first basket of the game and the Monarchs kept firing with the quick 12-0 lead. Turnovers proved costly for the Spirits as they did not score their first basket until eight minutes into the game. The Monarchs kept producing points and led 39-15 at the break thanks in part to shooting 12-for-16 from the free throw line.
Salem scored the first five points of the second half, but Methodist came right back with six straight points of their own.
Jordan Tyson's jumper with 9:42 remaining gave the Monarchs the 31 point lead.
Courtney Woods hit two free throws in the final five minutes to give Methodist their largest lead of the game at 66-30, before finishing with the 66-36 win.
Brianna Robinson led the Monarchs with 15 points with a team-high 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Jackie Lyles scored nine points with a team-high eight rebounds while
T.T. Taylor and Schrader added eight points apiece.
JoJo Hall led Salem with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Monarchs will be back on the road this weekend taking on Agnes Scott Saturday at 2 p.m.
