Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - The Methodist men's basketball team reconvened after a short holiday break and traveled up to Lexington, Va. to take on Washington and Lee, but the Generals were too much for the Monarchs. Washington and Lee opened up an 11-0 lead and went on to win 83-57.

The Monarchs (3-8) missed their first seven shots before Kyle Combs put Methodist on the board with a 3-pointer. Meanwhile, Washington and Lee (6-4) started out 4-for-5 including three 3-pointers to lead 11-0. Bryan Hockaday hit a jumper with 15:17 remaining in the first half to cut the lead to six, but the Generals came right back to take the 22-7 advantage. Methodist sparked a run to close the gap to eight points, but Washington and Lee led by as many as 28 before taking the 48-24 lead at the break.

The second half played out much better for the Monarchs, out scored by just two points but the first half deficit was too much to overcome. The shooting woes continued as Methodist finished shooting just 32 percent from the field compared to the Generals' 56 percent. Washington and Lee hit 13 3-pointers including a blistering 9-for-14 in the first half.

Combs led the Monarchs with 14 points while Tyre Blakely added eight points on 6-for-8 shooting from the free throw line. Mark Jernigan added seven points and a team-high six rebounds.

Javon McDonald paced the Generals with 18 points while J.D. Ey had 16 points and Jeremy Adkins added 15. McDonald and Adkins had five 3-pointers apiece.

Methodist falls into the consolation bracket for the tournament and will take on the loser of Gettysburg and Juniata on Friday at 2 p.m.
