ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Methodist men's basketball team held the lead over N.C. Wesleyan in the first half, but could not overcome an 11-point deficit in the second half, falling 93-84.
The first half was tight early with N.C. Wesleyan holding the 16-11 lead before the Monarchs used a nine point swing to take a four point lead of their own with 11:09 to play in the period. The score was tied eight times in the half before the Bishops took a 40-37 lead at the break.
N.C. Wesleyan built a 10 point lead in the first five minutes of the second half, but Methodist cut the lead to two with a layup by
Josh Hayes with 12:42 remaining. The Monarchs tied the game at 66 and 71, but it was the Bishops who led 84-76 with 2:55 to play.
Bryan Hockaday responded with a layup at the other end, but N.C. Wesleyan converted free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 93-84 win.
Hockaday was the game's leading scorer with 25 points and 15 rebounds.
Mark Jernigan added 21 points and nine rebounds while
Travis Fulp was in double figures with 10 points.
Methodist will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Greensboro in their final regular season home game at 7:30 p.m.
