Monarchs Run Past N.C. Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball won their 10th conference game on Saturday with an 82-66 victory over N.C. Wesleyan College.

The Monarchs led for the entire game scoring the first basket of the game and leading by as many as nine in the first half. The Battling Bishops moved within one points with 1:47 left to play in the period, but Methodist finished the half on a 6-0 run to lead 37-30 at the break.

N.C. Wesleyan cut the lead to five with 13:46 remaining, but the Monarchs went on an 11-0 run capped off by a layup from Brianna Robinson to lead 59-43 midway through the second half. Sarah Ritchie hit two free throws to give Methodist their largest lead of the game at 70-51 before the team finished with the 82-66 victory.

Brianna Robinson led the team in scoring with 14 points while Iesha Hayes added 12 points. Emily Huneycutt and Dawn Sanderson also finished in double figures with 10 points a piece.

The Monarchs will be back in action tomorrow in a rescheduled game at Meredith at 2 p.m.
