FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team methodically put away the Berry College Vikings on Sunday with a 10-0 rout.
The Monarchs got on the board in the third inning with a two-out rally after a single from
Brian Inghram followed by a double to right center from
Tyler Younger to score Inghram. The Monarchs added three runs in the fifth sparked by a lead-off walk by
Tripp Lancaster.
Shawn Lovette singled and advanced to third on an error to score Lancaster. Lovette scored on a wild pitch and
Trey Such subsequently hit a bomb to right center for the 4-0 lead.
Chris Perry kept the offense going in the sixth with a lead-off home run to right field. The Monarchs added another run from
Dustin Brown for a six run advantage. The Monarchs added two runs apiece in the seventh and eighth to secure the 10-0 win. Lovette had a two-run home run in the eighth to contribute to the victory.
Lovette finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Brown was 2-for-3 while Perry went 2-for-4 and Such was 2-for-5 at the plate.
Michael Judge pitched seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts for the win.
Jaron Cayton and Perry each pitched an inning of relief to preserve the shutout.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Friday as part of the Methodist Diamond Invitational when they host Roanoke at 4 p.m.
