Methodist Battles for 82-68 Win Over Pride

Four seniors were recognized before the game

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Greensboro College took the early lead, but the Methodist men's basketball team used a 9-0 run at the end of the first half to catapault the Monarchs toward the 82-68 win.

The Pride (11-12, 4-6) opened the game with an 8-2 advantage, but Methodist (9-14, 4-6) took their first lead of the game with a layup by Matthew Snowberger with 9:42 to play in the first half. Both teams exchanged baskets, but Greensboro was ahead 30-29 with 2:06 remaining. The Monarchs finished the final two minutes with a 9-0 run to lead 38-30 at halftime.

Greensboro scored the first basket of the second half, but Methodist got back on track with 11 straight points for the 49-32 lead. The Pride trimmed the lead to eight points on a number of occasions, but the Monarchs always responded to maintain their advantage. Methodist led by as many as 19 points before finishing with the 82-68 win.

Bryan Hockaday paced the Monarchs with his third double-double of the season scoring 19 points with 14 rebounds. Terrell Stallings scored 14 points while Travis Fulp, Mark Jernigan and Kyle Combs added 11 points apiece.

Lewis Owenby led the Pride with 15 points and six rebounds.

Methodist recognized seniors Claude Bernard, Paul Bernard, Travis Fulp and Marc Slade in their final regular season home game. All four seniors are four-year members of the basketball program demonstrating their dedication and loyalty to the team.

The Monarchs will finish the regular season on the road this weekend traveling to Christopher Newport on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
