Methodist Baseball Blasts Purchase

Sergio Davis hit 7-for-7 in the two wins

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team struck and early and often on Tuesday to come away with two big wins over Purchase College.

The Monarchs put together a six-spot in the bottom of the first after stringing together five hits on top of two Purchase errors. Sergio Davis singled and scored on a Trey Such double in the second before the Monarchs added two runs in the third on a two-RBI single from Davis.

The Monarchs added two runs in the fourth along with a run in both the fifth and the sixth innings to finish with the 13-1 win.

Louie DeCarolis pitched three innings to earn the win with four strikeouts. Jaron Cayton, Reid Berry and Josh Ayers finished in relief.

Davis went 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Shawn Lovette went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Brian Inghram hit 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Methodist picked up where they left off in game two scoring five runs in the first inning. Chris Perry and Tyler Younger both had two-RBI doubles in the inning to boost the Monarchs' offense. Davis scored on a balk in the second and Such singled to score Brandon Thigpen for the 7-0 lead. Thigpen drew the bases loaded walk in the third to score Kyle Williams.

The Monarchs put together three runs in the fifth and four in the sxith to cap off the 15-0 win. Davis went 3-for-3 and Tyler Younger was 5-for-5 at the plate. Inghram and Perry added two hits apiece.

The Monarchs pitched by committee with Michael Judge earning the win. Andrew Womble, Brett Bially, Rett Lee, Perry and Rusty White all pitched in relief.

Methodist will be back in action on Saturday when they host N.C. Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
