FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Monarchs scored early and often as they jumped all over Penn State-Abington and finished with the 22-1 victory.
Tripp Lancaster led things off with a single and stole second before advancing to third on
Sergio Davis' bunt. Lancaster scored on
Shawn Lovette's sacrifice for the 1-0 lead. The Monarchs rattled off four runs in the second inning on three hits before exploding for eight runs on seven hits in the third inning. Methodist batted around with
Brandon Thigpen hitting a three-run home run to right field in his second at bat.
The Monarchs kept things going in the fourth inning with two runs for the 15-0 lead. The Nittany Lions got on the board in the fifth with a run, but Methodist countered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Trey Such hit a solo shot over the fence in left field for the 17-1 lead. The Monarchs added three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to finish with the 22-1 victory.
Davis finished 4-for-5 at the plate while Lancaster and
Dustin Brown went 3-for-5.
Matt Quick was 3-for-3 and Lovette finished with four RBI.
Brett Bially pitched four scoreless innings with four strikeouts for the win.
Louie DeCarolis went four innings and
Reid Berry finished the final inning.
Methodist will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Swarthmore College at 3:30 p.m. in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
