Monarchs Fall at N.C. Wesleyan

Box Score ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Methodist trailed for most of the game before taking the lead midway through the second half, but N.C. Wesleyan College came back to earn the 77-67 win over the Monarchs.

The first half went back and forth early before Methodist (7-8, 4-4) used a 6-0 run midway through the half to lead 25-18 on a jumper by Jackie Lyles. The Bishops (7-6, 4-4) came back and tied the game at 28, 30 and 35 before Methodist's Emily Huneycutt scored a free throw in the final seconds to give the Monarchs the 36-35 advantage at halftime.

Methodist's T.T. Taylor scored a quick basket to start the second half, but N.C. Wesleyan went on a 14-2 run to lead 49-40 with 14:55 remaining. Methodist came back with a run of their own to lead 56-53, but the Bishops turned it on late and led by as many as 14 points with 2:11 on the clock. Courtney Woods drained a 3-pointer in the final minute to move the Monarchs within nine, but N.C. Wesleyan held on to finish with the 77-67 win.

It was all about the post play Wednesday with Christian Schrader leading the team with 17 points and T.T. Taylor added 13 points. Jordan Tyson scored nine points while Jackie Lyles had eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

Samantha Urquhart led the Bishops with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Tiffany Bell and Shelby Jackson scored 11 and 10 points respectively.

Methodist will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Meredith College for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
