Lynchburg Runs Past Monarchs

Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Lynchburg Hornets scored the first 11 points and never looked back as they finished with the 92-79 win over Methodist University.

After a slow start, the Monarchs chipped away at the lead and midway through the first half, James Whitehead drained a 3-pointer to cut the lead to three points. The Hornets (12-8) responded with 15 straight points before Methodist's Mark Jernigan stopped the run with a 3-pointer. Lynchburg led by as many as 17 points in the half, but Jernigan and Whitehead hit back-to-back threes to close the half within 11 at 46-35.

The Hornets came out with a 13-3 run to start the second half and led by as many as 23 points at 80-57. Methodist kept fighting and cut the lead to 13 points at the buzzer with a 3-pointer from Justin Washington, but Lynchburg finished with the 92-79 win.

Jernigan finished with 23 points while Whitehead added 22 points and seven rebounds. Bryan Hockaday put away 13 points and eight rebounds.

Nate Campbell led Lynchburg with 30 poins and seven boards.

Methodist will return to conference play on Tuesday when they host Averett University at 7:30 p.m.
