Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – A late game-tying goal proved to be not enough as the Methodist women's soccer team fell, 4-3 in OT, to Piedmont on Sunday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
After
Jessie Oder tied the game at 3-3 with well-placed shot from 30 yards out and just 2:57 showing on the clock, Piedmont needed only 20 seconds in the first overtime period to net the game-winning goal as Macie Rooke scored unassisted to lift Piedmont to a 4-3 win.
Methodist took a 2-0 lead into the half on a pair of unassisted goals in the opening 45 minutes.
Brooke Corley started scoring at the 6:24 mark when she dribbled in on Piedmont's Marjorie Hammond and beat the keeper to her right.
In the 19
th minute, it was
Kristin Habig scoring her seventh goal of the season as the Monarchs increased their lead to 2-0.
Piedmont's Laura Goodwin scored the Lions' first two goals of the contest as Piedmont knotted the game at 2-2. She scored unassisted at the 55:17 mark, then added another unassisted tally at the 76:42 mark to tie the game.
Dilyn MacLean appeared to win it in regulation for Piedmont when she at the 84:17 mark, before Oder netted her goal to tie the contest once again and send it into overtime where Rooke then lifted the Lions to the win.
Taylor Ross played all 90:20 in goal for the Monarchs and made four saves with the four goals allowed. Hammond played the opening 45:00 in goal for Piedmont and made two saves with two goals allowed, while Michaela Gardner played the final 45:20 and allowed one goal with two saves.
Methodist returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Ferrum for a 12:00 pm game.
