Box Score MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Methodist women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at Maryville on Sunday afternoon.
Ashley Howarth scored twice for the Scots as they improved to 10-3-1 on the year and 8-1-1 in the conference. Methodist slipped to 6-12-0 and 4-6-0 in the USA South.
Howarth gave Maryville an early 1-0 lead when she scored off an assist from Caitlin Ramsey just 8:44 into the contest. Roughly six minutes later, the Monarchs' Katie Pederson tied the match at 1-1 with an unassisted tally at the 14:47 mark.
The Scots struck again under 3:00 later as Howarth netted her second goal of the game, this time off a Sierra Siegel assist, at the 17:20 mark for a 2-1 lead that Maryville would not relinquish.
Siegel capped the scoring just 46 seconds into the second period as Howarth found her for a 3-1 lead.
Sarah Hayden played all 90:00 in goal for the Monarchs and made nine saves on the day as Methodist was outshot, 17-8. Michelle Foulke made five saves for the Scots.
Methodist is back in action on Wednesday when they wrap up regular-season play at home against N.C. Wesleyan beginning at 3:00 pm.
