Methodist Falls, 88-51, at Hampden-Sydney in Men's Basketball

Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Hampden-Sydney Men's basketball team shot 55.4 percent from the field and raced out to 19-point lead by halftime in defeating Methodist, 88-51, on Friday evening.
 
For the game the Tigers (5-1) made good on 36-of-65 shots from the floor, including 10-of-18 (.556) from beyond the arc in defeating the Monarchs. MU shot just 18-of-53 (.340) from the field and slipped of 0-4 on the year.

Trailing by just five (16-11) following a James Whitehead dunk with 11:48 to play in the opening half, the Monarchs when cold from the field, making just two of their next seven shots, while the Tigers made 8-of-10 attempts from the field in a 19-6 scoring run that pushed their lead out to 18 (35-17) with 5:50 left. H-SC would go into the half up 19 (45-26). Five different players scored for Hampden-Sydney during the run.
 
Hampden-Sydney scored the first points of the second half on a Greg Lewis layup to take a 21-point lead with 19:41 on the clock and its lead never dipped below 20 the remainder of the game as it avenged a two-point loss to the Monarchs last season.
 
Hampden-Sydney assisted on 26 of its 36 made baskets and out rebounded Methodist, 39-26. The Monarchs connected on 70.6 percent (12-17) of their free-throw attempts while H-SC only made 6-of-11 attempts from the stripe.
 
Whitehead led the Monarchs with 14 points, including a perfect 7-of-7 showing at the line. He also added four rebounds. Bryan Hockaday scored 12 points, making good on 5-of-8 shots from the floor and also grabbed four boards while handing out two assists.
 
Harrison George, Lewis and Kodie Critzer all scored 11 points for H-SC and Khobi Williamson added 10 points. Cam Anderson led all players with eight rebounds and Mike Murray handed out six assists to go with five points and a pair of steals.
 
Methodist returns to action on Dec. 8, when it hosts Huntingdon at 1:00 pm.
