Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team led by as many as 14 and held on down the stretch to win 61-56 over Shenandoah University.
The Monarchs opened up the quick 6-0 lead and trailed just once at 9-8 before going on a 12-0 run to lead 35-21 with 3:24 remaining in the first half. The Hornets came back to close the half on an 8-0 run of their own to trail 35-29 at halftime.
Methodist's
Emily Huneycutt kicked off the second half with a 3-pointer and the Monarchs continued to maintain control. Shenandoah moved within one with a traditional 3-point play in the final five minutes, but
T.T. Taylor came back with a strong move to the basket for a layup on the assist from
Jackie Lyles. The Monarchs finished 7-for-10 at the free throw line down the stretch to edge the Hornets 61-56.
Lyles finished with 17 points and six rebounds while
Courtney Woods had another career high day with 11 points.
Methodist will be back in action on Sunday when they host Mary Baldwin College at 2 p.m.
