Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The University of Mary Washington knocked off the Methodist women's soccer team, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at the Monarch Soccerplex.
Jessica Bednarcik's unassisted goal at the 66:38 mark proved to be the game winner as Mary Washington stayed unbeaten (5-0-0) while the Monarchs slipped to 1-4-0 on the season.
The Eagles opened up an early 1-0 advantage with Lizzie Weast intercepted a pass deep in the Methodist end and fed a ball to Michelle Gibbons who beat MU freshman goalkeeper
Taylor Ross at the 20:01 mark.
In the second half, senior
Kristin Habig found sophomore
Sean Edwards, who put a ball past Eagle goalkeeper Charlotte Owens to tie the game at 1-1 at the 56:40 mark.
However, Bednarcik got on the end of a through ball and out raced the Methodist defense before tallying the aforementioned game winner with under 25 minutes to play.
Mary Washington held a 16-13 edge in shots and Ross, who played all 90:00 in net for Methodist, came up with five saves. Owens also played the duration in goal and made four saves for the Eagles.
Methodist is back at it on Saturday hosting Peace at 2:00 pm.
