Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team turned in a dominant offensive performance in posting a 5-0 win over Peace on Saturday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
Methodist totaled 45 shots, including 20 on goal, to just three for the Pacers in winning the USA South opener for both teams. The Monarchs improved to 2-4-0 (1-0-0 USA South) on the season, while Peace fell to 1-5-0 (0-1-0 USA South).
Junior
Lisa Paschal got the Monarchs off and running with a trio of unassisted goals in the opening 15:06 of the match. Her first tally came just 5:21 into the contest to give MU an early 1-0 lead. She extended the home side's advantage to 2-0 at the 7:17 mark and she completed her hat trick with another goal at the 15:06 mark.
After the 3-0 lead early, Methodist kept up the offensive heat, launching 28 shots in the opening half, but Peace goalkeeper Sydney Melchert was able to keep the Monarchs off the scoreboard the remainder of the half with 13 first-half saves.
In the second period, senior
Brooke Corley gave Methodist a 4-0 advantage with a goal off an assist from senior
Tia Beckwith at the 62:01 mark. She quickly made it 5-0 and capped the scoring with another goal, this time off a feed from senior
Kristin Habig at the 63:22 mark for the final 5-0 margin.
Freshman
Taylor Ross earned the win in goal for Methodist. She started and played the first 56:55, making one save, before giving way to junior
Sarah Hayden, who played the final 33:05 and also came up with one save. Melchert played all 90:00 in goal for Peace and was credited with 20 saves.
The Monarchs are back in action tomorrow when they host Lynchburg at 2:00 pm.
