Box Score DANVILE, Va. -- The Methodist women's soccer team fell, 4-1, at Averett University on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Monarchs slipped to 3-6-0 (1-1-0 USA South) on the season while Averett moved to 3-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference.
Junior
Lisa Paschal gave the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal, her team-leading fifth of the season, just 5:54 into the contest. However, the Cougars tied the game up just under six minutes later when Sandra Johannson scored off an assist from Suvi Plipponen at the 11:40 mark to level the match at 1-1.
Late in the first half, Averett took a 2-1 lead as Camilla Sjoren scored off an assist from Johannson to make it 2-1 in favor of the Cougars with 12:48 left in the opening period.
Following an evenly-played second half, Averett added a pair of insurance goals in quick succession late in the contest. Pernilla Milton scored off a feed from Charlotte Thibault at the 79:11 mark and Sjoren capped the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 80:08 mark for the final 4-1 margin.
Freshman
Taylor Ross played all 90:00 in goal for the Monarchs, notching eight saves as AU outshot Methodist 25-7. Malin Borjesson played the duration in goal for the Cougars and made four saves.
The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday, travelling to Greensboro for a 1:00 pm contest.
