Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team scored three times in the second half to break open a tight game, defeating host Chowan, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon, which gave the Monarchs their third straight victory.
In the early going, MU (8-6-2) claimed the lead as
Jessie Oder scored off a free kick at the 29:52 mark, giving Methodist a 1-0 edge over the Braves (1-15-0). The Monarchs would carry this same advantage into halftime.
Following the break, MU would add another goal in the 64th minute when
Taylor Cavazos took a pass from
Victoria Martins at the top of the box and scored, stretching Methodist's lead to 2-0. Less than two minutes later,
Deycasha Miller tallied a goal off a rebound, making it a three-goal game. To cap the day's scoring,
Rylie Osborn took a cross from
Alex Walter and converted in the 87th minute.
Overall MU held a 34-7 edge over CU in terms of shots.
Methodist goalkeeper
Sarah Hayden played the entire first half, making two saves as she claimed the victory.
Taylor Ross relieved Hayden and stopped a single shot in the second half. Chowan's Monica Hayward was tagged with the loss, giving up three goals and making 14 saves in 81:10. She was relieved by Tara Maready, who stopped three shots.
Next up for the Monarchs will be a showdown with conference opponent LaGrange this Saturday as they host the Panthers for a 1:00 pm game.
