Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Ahead 2-0 at halftime, the Methodist women's soccer team scored five second-half goals as it defeated visiting Ferrum, 7-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.

The Monarchs (11-6-2, 8-3-1 USA South) closed out their regular-season schedule on a seven-match unbeaten streak, including six consecutive wins.

Neither team found the back of the net in the game's first 30 minutes. That quickly changed in the 31st minute when MU's Katie Pedersen drew a foul against FC goalkeeper Caitlyn Deaton, setting up a Jessie Oder penalty kick attempt. Oder converted at the 30:17 mark, putting Methodist up, 1-0. Roughly eight minutes later, Crystal Benfield took a pass from Cassie Poindexter and booted the ball past Deaton, netting her first goal in over a month. Poindexter earned the assist, and the Monarchs went ahead, 2-0, which remained the score at half.

During the final 45 minutes, MU turned a tight game into a blowout. Pedersen passed the ball upfield to Taylor Cavazos, and the sophomore transfer shot it into the far side of the net for her team-best ninth goal. This gave Methodist a 3-0 edge at the 46:39 mark. Almost 10 minutes down the line, Deycasha Miller found the back of the net for her seventh goal this fall.

Now ahead by four goals, the Monarchs continued to score. Poindexter took advantage of a scrum in front of the Ferrum goal, tallying a score at the 67:49 mark. Vicky Monroy added her first collegiate goal in the 70th minute, making a move and then beating the Ferrum goalkeeper Meghan Glover with a shot into the left side of the net. To cap the MU offensive attack, Katherine Nation scored her first college goal off Kimmie Pittman's corner kick at the 70:49 mark.

Down by a 7-0 margin, Ferrum (6-11-1, 3-8-1 USA South) got on the board as its leading scorer Morgan Funck broke away from the Methodist defense and lofted a shot over MU goalkeeper Sarah Hayden and into the net, breaking up the Monarchs' shutout bid with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Overall Methodist held a 24-2 advantage over Ferrum in shots. In goal, the Monarchs started Taylor Ross, and she earned the win as she played a scoreless half. Her replacement, Sarah Hayden, came in and played the rest of the game, making a single save. The Panthers played three different goalkeepers, and starter Caitlyn Deaton took the loss, allowing a pair of goals and stopping three shots.

With its regular season now complete, the Monarchs earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming USA South Tournament and will host No. 5 seed Meredith on Saturday at 11:30 am.
