Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Following two full halves of scoreless play, No. 5 Meredith broke through in the first overtime to defeat No. 4 Methodist, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon in a USA South Tournament quarterfinal match.
MU appeared to have an opportunity to score in the 88th minute as
Jessie Oder's free kick banged off the crossbar. As the buzzer sounded at the 90-minute mark, the match went into overtime.
Following a turnover in the Monarchs' side of the field, the Avenging Angels capitalized as Jessie Davis fired a shot from the far left side, which bounced off a diving
Taylor Ross' hands and rolled into the goal at the 92:20 mark.
Meredith (11-4-4) advances to the conference tournament semifinals next weekend despite being outshot, 12-5, by Methodist (11-7-2).
MU's Ross took the loss, making zero saves. MC's Kelsey Hopper earned the win, stopping four shots.
With the loss, the Monarchs have now concluded their 2013 season.
