Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Tabias Hilliard's jumper with three seconds to play forced overtime, but the Methodist men's basketball team ultimately fell, 93-83 (OT), to York (N.Y.) in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn Captains Shootout hosted by Christopher Newport on Sunday afternoon.

Hilliard's jumper with three seconds left tied the game at 76-76 and came after York's Du'Quan Lawson had a chance to give the Cardinals a three-point lead, but he split a pair of free throws with 18 seconds to play for a 76-74 lead.

York (2-2) scored the opening points in overtime on a Jaron Williams layup and never looked back in outscoring the Monarchs (1-4) 17-7 in the extra session. The Cardinals made 4-of-7 (.571) shots in overtime and got to the free-throw line 10 times, making nine attempts (.900). Conversely, Methodist only attempted four shots in overtime, making two, and connected on 3-of-4 (.750) free throws.

The Monarchs battled back to force overtime after facing an eight-point deficit (40-32) at the half and found themselves still trailing by nine (55-46) with 12:03 to play. Desmond Parker began the Monarchs' rally with an offensive rebound and putback at the 11:46 mark and by the 8:08 mark Keemon Ingram pulled MU even (60-60) with back-to-back three pointers. Parker and Ingram each scored six points during the 14-5 run.

Terell Roper gave York the lead back (62-60) with a lay in following Ingram's triples, but Keith Corbett answered with a three for Methodist as the Monarchs took a 63-62 lead with 7:17 on the clock. A pair of free throws by Bryan Hockaday at the 4:39 mark pushed MU's lead to 69-66. Omar St. John then converted a three-point play to tie the game once again (69-69) 3:47 and the two teams traded points down the stretch capped by Hilliard's bucket to force overtime.

For the game, the Monarchs shot an even 40.0 percent from the field (32-80), but converted on just 56.5 percent of their free-throw attempts (13-23). York made 32-of-67 shots from the field (.478), and got to the line 35 times, making 27 attempts (.771). Methodist also outrebounded York, 53-45, but lost the turnover battle, 15-9.

Hockaday was named to the all-tournament team after turning in his fourth double-double of the young season. He posted a season-high 22 points and added 16 boards and a pair of blocked shots. Keith Corbett also had a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing a career-best 12 rebounds. Parker finished with 15 points, and Hilliard had 11 points, six assists and three steals.
