Robinson's Career Night Leads Methodist Over Greensboro, 69-58, in Women's Hoops

Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Brianna Robinson tallied scored a career-high 25 points and added 16 rebounds and seven steals in leading the Methodist women's basketball team to a 69-58 win over Greensboro College on Wednesday night at Hanes Gym.
 
The Monarchs (15-6, 10-4 USA South), who led by one at the break (24-23), trailed 52-50 with 5:15 left to play after layup by the Pride's Amber Hair with 5:15 left to play before the Monarchs ended the game on a 21-9 scoring run to win for the fourth time in a row.
 
 MU's Christina Schrader tied the score at 50-50 on the Monarch's ensuing possession and Robinson followed with a steal and converted a three-point play to put MU on top, 53-50 with just under 5:00 minutes to play. GC's Bianca Richburg hit 1-of-2 free throws on the Pride's next possession to pull GC back within two, but the Monarchs held Greensboro scoreless for the next 3:45 in pushing out to a 67-51 lead with 1:04 left and cruising to the win. Robinson scored nine points in all during the game-changing run and Iesha Hayes added five.
 
Methodist began the game scoring the first nine points, seven by Robinson, in taking a 9-0 lead just 3:10 into the game. The Pride battled back and cut the MU lead to just two points (13-11) on a Richburg layup with 10:06 on the clock. The Monarchs pushed back out to a six-point lead (19-13) 6:50 before the half before GC closed the stanza on a 10-5 run to close to within a single points (24-23) at the break.
 
Both teams struggled from the floor as MU shot just 36.9 percent (24-65) for the game and Greensboro made 38.9 percent (21-54) of its field goal attempts. MU made 20-of-27 free-throw attempts while Greensboro hit 12-of-19 charity tosses. Greensboro outrebounded Methodist, 43-39, but the Monarchs forced the Pride into 29 turnovers while committing just 18 themselves.
 
For the game, Robinson hit on 7-of-14 shot attempts  and 11-of-15 attempts from the line. Hayes finished with 16 points and added four assists and six steals, while Schrader chipped in 14 points.
 
Richburg tallied a team-high 24 points for the Pride and added 14 rebounds. Jena Cabe added 11 points and four boards.
 
Methodist is back in action on Saturday when they take on N.C. Wesleyan at 2:00 pm.
