Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team defeated St. Mary's (Md.), 2-1, in a Saturday afternoon matchup that lasted into two overtimes at the Monarch Soccerplex.
With less than five minutes remaining to play in the second overtime period, MU's (2-2-2)
Jessie Oder passed a free kick to
Victoria Martins, who blasted the ball past the Seahawks' (1-3-2) Sara Eaton for the winning score at 105:23.
Earlier in the game,
Deycasha Miller put Methodist on the board as she took a
Leslie Coates pass and dinged the ball off the left post and into the goal, making it, 1-0, in the 12th minute. MU maintained this 1-0 lead as the two teams stepped away from the pitch at halftime.
SMC did end up responding, however, as Jess Konecke took advantage of a teammate's header off the post with a successful header past Monarch goalkeeper
Sarah Hayden, knotting things up, 1-1, at the 62:45 mark.
MU concluded play with an 8-2 shots on goal advantage, and Hayden (2-2-2) made two saves. The Seahawks' Eaton (0-3-1) took the loss, stopping six shots.
Methodist will hit the road tomorrow afternoon as it faces host Mary Washington at 3:00 p.m.
