Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Methodist women's soccer team fell, 3-1, against host Mary Washington in a Sunday afternoon game at Grass Stadium.
The Eagles (3-3) used two Erin Reynolds scores to jump ahead, 2-0, in the first half against the Monarchs (2-3-1). Reynolds' first tally came at the 7:29 mark, with Leah Roth earning an assist. In the 29th minute, Reynolds notched another score, this one unassisted, making it, 2-0. MU would get on the board at the 37:19 mark as
Crystal Benfield scored an unassisted goal, making it a 2-1 game. At the half, Mary Washington still led, 2-1.
During the second half, the Eagles continued to put the pressure on Methodist goalkeeper
Sarah Hayden, and broke through on a Jessica Bednarcik goal in the 47th minute, pushing their lead to 3-1. In the final 45 minutes alone, UMW held a 13-2 edge in terms of shots.
Hayden (2-3-2) took the loss, making 11 saves on the day. Mary Washington's Alyssa Goodwin (3-3) earned the win after stopping three shots.
The Monarchs will return to the Monarch Soccerplex next Sunday in their USA South opener against Greensboro at 4:00 pm.
