Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team used one goal in each half to top Greensboro, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
The Monarchs (3-3-1, 1-0-0) won their USA South opener as
Taylor Cavazos and
Victoria Martins accounted for the scoring plays in the 29th and 66th minutes, respectively.
Crystal Benfield assisted on Cavazos' goal.
With Methodist ahead, 1-0, at halftime, goalkeeper
Taylor Ross relieved starter
Sarah Hayden and played the remainder of the match, her first appearance since September 1 against Johns Hopkins.
MU posted a 21-4 edge in shots over GC (1-5-0, 0-2-0), keeping constant pressure on Pride goalkeeper Jessica Thatcher (1-4-0), who made five saves. Monarch goalkeeper Hayden (3-2-1) earned the victory, stopping two shots.
Methodist will resume play with another USA South matchup on Friday, this one on the road against Averett at 2:00 pm.
