Box Score DANVILLE, Va. - The Methodist women's soccer team fell, 1-0, on the road against Averett in an early Friday afternoon USA South matchup.
Less than five minutes after MU's (3-4-1, 1-1-0 USA South)
Jessie Oder's shot banged off the crossbar, AU's (5-3-0, 3-0-0) Sandra Johansson took a cross from teammate Taylor Ortman, and chipped the ball over MU goalkeeper
Sarah Hayden's head, giving AU an 1-0 lead at the 12:21 mark.
The Cougars edged the Monarchs, 18-15, in terms of shots while also owning a 7-5 advantage in shots on target.
Methodist's Hayden (3-3-1) was given the loss, making five saves in her lone half in goal.
Taylor Ross came in relief of Hayden, playing the final 45 minutes and making a single save. Averett's Malin Borjesson (5-3-0) was credited with her second shutout victory of the season, stopping five shots as well.
MU will continue its eight-game stretch of conference play as it travels down to Georgia on Sunday to face off with Piedmont at 2:00 pm.
