Box Score FAYETTVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team used three second-half goals to best the visiting Covenant Scots, 3-1, on Friday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Monarchs (5-5-1; 4-1-1) used an early second half goal by Deycasha Miller in the 47th minute, to put Methodist at a 1-0 advantage.
 
The Monarchs continued to put the pressure on Covenant's (6-8-1; 4-3-0) goalkeeper Lucy Johnson, forcing her to make back-to-back saves as Leslie Coates attempted to find the back of the net. Methodist broke though in the 63rd minute, as Sara Snotherly bounced a shot off the crossbar and Cassie Poindexter corraled the rebound and found the back of the net, putting MU ahead, 2-0.
 
Miller attacked once again in the 80th minute, scoring the final Methodist strike, extending the Monarch lead to 3-0.
 
Covenant attempted to rally, notching one goal in the 83rd minute by Ruth Terry, but ultimately fell short to the Monarchs, 3-1.
 
Methodist held the offensive advantage, outshooting the Scots 16-6, with seven shots on frame to their two.   
 
MU's Taylor Ross will add the win to her resume, improving to 5-4-1 on the season, after making one save on the day. Johnson will return with the loss, falling to 6-8-1 on the season, despite making four saves during the match.
 
Methodist will return to the Monarch Soccerplex on Saturday, to take on the Scots of Maryville. Prior to the match the four Monarch seniors, Cassie Walter, Alex Walter, Jessie Oder, and Rylie Osborn, will be honored. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
