STAUNTON, Va. -- The Methodist women's soccer team turned in a dominant offensive performance in posting a 5-0 win over host Mary Baldwin on Saturday afternoon.
Methodist totaled 25 shots, including 12 on goal, to just two by the Fighting Squirrels. The Monarchs improved to 6-5-2 (5-1-2 USA South) on the season, while Mary Baldwin fell to 2-11 (0-9 USA South).
MU's Taylor Cavasos got the Monarchs off and running with a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes of the match. Her first tally came just 3:45 into the contest, when Cavasos capitalized off a feed from
Sara Snotherly to give MU an early 1-0 lead. She extended the Monarchs' advantage to 2-0 in the 19th minute with a goal off an assist from
Leslie Coates.
The Monarchs capped the first half scoring with a penalty kick goal by
Julianne LoGrasso in the 30th minute, giving Methodist a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Methodist was quick to attack as freshman
Elizabeth Rougcher netted her first goal of her career as a Monarch, unassisted, in the 52nd minute, bringing the visiting team to a strong 4-0 advantage.
The Monarchs topped off the day's scoring in the 88th minute as Crystal Benefield tallied an unassisted goal to make it 5-0 in Methodist's favor.

Taylor Ross earned the win in goal for Methodist. She started and played the first half, making two saves, before giving way to freshman
Meaghan O'Meara, who played the final 45:00 and was not pressured to make any saves. Hayley Gillen played all 90:00 in goal for Mary Baldwin and was credited with 6 saves.
The Monarchs are back in action on Tuesday when they host Meredith at 4:00 pm.
