Box Score FERRUM, Va. – The Methodist women's soccer team recorded a 2-0 win over Ferrum and secured a spot in the USA South Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
The visiting Monarchs, who finished their season with an overall record of 10-5-2 and 9-1-2 in conference play, outshot the Panthers 23-8 with 12 shots on frame to seven. With the loss, Ferrum falls to 7-11 on the season and 4-8 in the USA South.
Cassie Poindexter was the first to put the Monarchs on the board after taking a feed from Kortney Maggard at the 19:04 mark and putting it past Ferrum goalkeeper Caitlyn Deaton.
Methodist would hold this 1-0 lead through the remainder of the first half and 38 minutes into the second until Leslie Coates netted an unassisted goal at the 83:47 mark.
On the defensive side, Taylor Ross saw all 90 minutes of action and completed a season-high seven saves, preserving the Monarch's clean sheet. For Ferrum, Deaton played all 90 and made 10 saves.
With the win, Methodist are sure to host a USA South quarterfinal match this Saturday afternoon, time and opponent unknown.
