Bryan Hockaday recorded a double-double of 19 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, but it was not enough as the N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball team knocked off Methodist, 90-77, on Wednesday evening at the Riddle Center.

Facing an 11-point deficit (60-49) with 12:39 left in the second half, the Monarchs (9-15, 6-7 USA South) used a 14-4 run to trim NCWC's (12-12, 7-6 USA South) lead to one at 64-63 with 6:45 to play. Back-to-back three's by
Keemon Ingram and
Tabias Hilliard ignited the run, and a short jumper by Hockaday made it 62-57 with 9:33 on the clock. Following a jumper by the Bisohps' Josh Morrison at the other end, a free throw by Hockaday, a pair of buckets by Hilliard and a free throw by
Chris Vinson the Monarchs trailed 64-63.

Methodist still trailed by one (69-68) when NCWC rattled off an 11-0 spurt to assume an 80-69 lead by the 2:25 mark. Morrison scored six points during the game-clinching burst. Forced to foul down the stretch, the Monarchs were done in by a 10-for-10 performance at the free-throw line by the Bishops in the final 1:15.

The first half featured two ties and five lead changes. The Bishops used an 11-4 run to extend from a 24-22 lead to a 35-26 advantage by the 3:29 mark before MU closed the half on a 6-1 run to make it a 36-32 game at halftime as
Desmond Parker converted a jumper with four seconds on the clock.

Both teams shot well for the game. Methodist checked in at 49.2 percent (29-59) overall, while NCWC finished at 47.5 percent (29-61). The Monarchs also shot 42.1 percent from beyond the arc (8-19), and the Bishops hit on 8-of-21 three-point (.381) tries. NCWC got to the line 31 times, converting 24 attempts (.774), while MU shot just 52.4 percent from the charity stripe (11-21).

Hockaday shot 8-of-11 from the field and added a pair of assists and two blocks. Hilliard finished with 19 points, three assists and three steals, and Parker and
T.J. Gill had 14 and 13 points, respectively. Ingram finished with nine points off the bench.

Morrison totaled a game-high 21 points, including 15-of-16 shooting from the charity stripe. Devontae Williams added 17 points, hitting all six of his field-goal attempts. D.J. Weaver (15), Shannon Huff (13), and David Gurganus (11) all finished in double-figure scoring as well. Huff and Brandon Brown each pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

Methodist will wrap up its regular season on Saturday when it hosts Ferrum at 4:00 pm.
