Box Score AURORA, Ill. -- The Methodist women's soccer team suffered a loss in its season opener on Friday evening, falling to Aurora, 3-1, in the second game of the Chelsea Lloyd Memorial Classic.

The Lady Spartans (1-0) had the better of the offense in both the first and second half, besting the Monarchs, 13-2, in shots on frame. The scoreboard remained 0-0 until the 36th minute when Nicci Bermudes of Aurora scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Lisa Bajkowski for a 1-0 lead.

Aurora struck again just seven minutes later when Bermudes slotted her second goal of the match, this time unassisted, giving the home team a 2-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Spartans continued to put the pressure on the Monarchs, and tacked on an Alexis Bejarano goal, with assist from Bermudes, in the 53rd minute, pushing their lead to 3-0.Â

The Green and Gold fought back in the 84th minute, as
Cassie Poindexter scored the lone Monarchs' goal of the match, assisted by
Melissa Jubin, bringing the score to 3-1.

Taylor Ross (0-1) took the loss for MU, allowing two goals while making two saves. Megan O'Meara entered the game in the second half, notching one save and allowing one goal. Aurora's Rachael Warnock (1-0) earned the win after making one save and allowing only one goal. Â

The Monarchs will play once again in Aurora, Ill. Sunday at 11:30 am CST against Otterbein. Â
