Methodist Women's Soccer Concludes 2015 Season with 1-0 2OT Loss to Piedmont

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Methodist women's soccer team concluded its 2015 season on Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 to the USA South Tournament's No. 2 seed, Piedmont, in double overtime.

The Monarchs finished with an overall record of 13-7, while the Lions improved their record to 20-1-1 and claimed the USA South's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.

The two teams were neck-and-neck in shots with 16 apiece, but the Lions held the edge in shots on frame, 14-5.

Following 90 minutes of scoreless play, Methodist had a chance to earn the victory with a penalty kick by Taylor Cavazos following a Piedmont handball in the box in the 95th minute, but Piedmont's starting goalkeeper, Michaela Garder, was able to make a save and keep the score knotted at 0-0.

With 15 seconds left in the second overtime, the USA South's Player and Rookie of the Year, Cassidy Reich, tallied her 22nd goal of the year and the game-winner off a free-kick, allowing Piedmont to escape with a 1-0 victory.

Despite making a career-high 13 saves, Taylor Ross took the loss for the Monarchs after seeing all 110 minutes of action in goal. Gardner was given the win after making five saves in her 110 minutes in goal.

Following the match, the USA South named forward Capri Clark, midfielder Cavazos, defender Eryka Underwood and Ross to the all-tournament team.
