Irving Aughburns made two three-pointers in the final minute, including the game-winner with 12 seconds left, in Methodist University's 59-57 men's basketball win at Guilford College Wednesday night.

Aughburns, who scored eight of his 10 points in the second half, knocked down his first triple with 42 seconds left to give the Monarchs (3-4) their first lead (56-55) of the second half. Following a Guilford timeout, the Quakers' Will Freeman scored inside off a Trevor Mayo feed to put Guilford back in front by one (57-56) with 22 seconds left.

The Monarchs called timeout and went back to Aughburns, who came off a screen near the top of the key where he knocked down the game-winner. His basket capped Methodist's methodical comeback from a 12-point deficit with 8:19 remaining. The Monarchs outscored the Quakers, 25-11, in that time.

The Quakers had taken a three-point lead at the break, (28-25) and stretched that out to the aforementioned 12-point lead with just over eight minutes to play. Methodist hit on seven of its final 11 shots from the field as well as seven of 11 free-throw attempts to close out the game.

The win over Guilford snaps a nine-game losing streak to the Quakers dating back to 2006.

As a team, Methodist shot 42.9 percent from the floor (21-49), but hit on just 60.0 percent of its free-throw attempts (15-25). Guilford was limited to 36.4 percent shooting (24-66) from the floor and a 35.3 percent shooting (6-17) from the line. The Quakers had 42 rebounds to MU's 41, and also won the turnover battle, 17-12.

Brandon Monk tied Aughburns for the team lead with 10 points.
Jackson Whitley added eight points and six rebounds, and
Tabias Hilliard also had eight points. Aughburns also had a game-high nine boards.

Will Freeman led all scorers with 14 points for GC. Jarrod Rogers had nine points for GC, but shot just 3-of-10, and Carson Long and Trever Hyatt each had eight points. Zachary Houston had nine rebounds to lead the Quakers and Mayo added eight boards.
