FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist softball team wrapped up its regular season with a split of a doubleheader with Huntingdon on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs earned a 10-2 win in five innings to begin the day, then fell, 8-0, in the nightcap.

In game one,
Nicole Heinrich allowed just two runs (0 ER) on five hits with one strikeout in 5.0 innings to improve 8-6 on the season. Her counterpart, Lindsey Selph, got roughed up by the MU offense in the early going.

The Monarchs struck for five runs in the first inning to seize control of the game.
Sarah Stapleton reached on an error to lead off the game, and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. With one out,
Lindsay Tippett doubled home Stapleton for the game's first run and a 1-0 lead.
Kelsey Harrington followed with a single that put Tippett on third, and
Ally Griffin walked to load the bases.

Kristen Bailly made it 2-0 with a run-scoring single, and
Alanna Anderson added an RBI single for a 3-0 lead. With two outs,
Allyson Aycock doubled to left to score two and make it 5-0 in favor of the Green and Gold.

Huntingdon got on the board in the fifth inning as a two-out error led to Daisha Henderson's two-run triple to score Ashley Johns and Chelsea Messer.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Monarchs put the finishing touches on the run-rule victory, plating the game-ending run on Harrington's RBI single to center.

Selph took the loss, lasting just 0.2 innings and allowing five runs (4 ER) on five hits and a walk.

Tippett was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs. Harrington was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run, and Bailly and Anderson each had two base hits with an RBI and a run scored.

In game two, Huntingdon's Katy Messick limited the Monarchs to three hits in 7.0 innings. She walked five and struck out eight in earning the complete-game shutout.

The Hawks got on the board with the help of an MU miscue in the field that led to two runs, part of a three-run inning. In the sixth inning, two more errors RBI singles by Jessica Swindle and Heather McGuirk made it 7-0, and the Hawks capped the scoring on Brandi Blair's RBI groundout in the seventh.

Emily Hester took the loss. She allowed three runs (1 ER) on three hits and a walk in 2.0 innings.
Christine Bowman pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs (1 ER) on five hits, and
Monica Revels pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up three runs (2 ER) on three hits.

McGuirk was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Messick finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Kala Rooney and Tiffany Taylor each scored twice.
