Methodist Women's Lacrosse Falters vs. Meredith, 17-4

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Meredith College scored 13 first-half goals en route to a 17-4 win over the Methodist women's lacrosse team on Thursday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.
 
Carlee Joseph scored four first-half goals, and Lottie Meadows and Victoria Doyld added three apiece as Meredith (10-5, 5-1 USA South) took control of the contest early. Jennifer Halvorson started the scoring for the Avenging Angels at the 26:19 mark, and Sareena Coleman scored for MU at 25:57 to knot the game at 1-1.
 
Meadows answered with her first goal of the period a minute later, and Doyle notched back-to-back tallies to give MC a 4-1 lead by the 20:49 mark. Joseph and Danielle Lee each added goals as Meredith pushed its lead to 6-1 with 17:54 left in the first half.
 
Emily Brennen made it 6-2 when she scored unassisted at the 16:38 mark, but MC, behind three goals from Joseph, took a 13-2 lead with 51 seconds left in the period. Cassie Walter scored as the first half expired to make it 13-3 at the break as MC cruised to the win.
 
Meredith out shot MU, 40-10, and picked up 21 ground balls to 10 for Methodist. The Monarchs also committed 18 turnovers and were just 5-of-14 clearing the ball. Emily Ewin made 11 saves for the Monarchs, and Meghan Brooks and Griffin Hewitt combined to make four saves for the Avenging Angels.
 
Walter finished with two goals for the Monarchs, and she and Hope Motahari were honored as the two team's seniors before the game. Motahari had a team-best three draw controls. Gabbi Tobais led MU with three ground balls and Javen Henry had two caused turnovers.
 
Meadows (5g, 1a) and Doyle (4g, 2a) each had six points to lead the Avenging Angels. Joseph finished with four goals, and Lee had three. Doyle also had a game-high four draw controls, and Lee picked up five ground balls.
 
Methodist is back on the field on Wednesday at Columbia beginning at 6:00 pm.
