After a layup by AU's Carter Jones, Monk scored seven consecutive points to bring the deficit to five and a layup by Ayabarreno cut it to three (60-57) on a feed from Monk with 5:19 to play. Monk capped his virtuoso run with another layup to inch MU within a single point (62-61) at the 3:34 to play, but AU held MU scoreless the remainder of the contest, closing out the game on an 11-0 run to seal the win.

As a team, MU shot 44.4 percent from the floor (24-54) to Averett's 43.3 percent (29-67). MU was also a perfect 10-for-10 from the line and held a 40-28 edge on the glass, but Averett forced 20 Monarch turnovers while committing just seven.
