FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's basketball team outscored William Peace, 26-13, in the fourth quarter to pull out a 64-51 win over William Peace on Monday evening at the Riddle Center.

The Monarchs (6-3, 2-0 USA South) and Pacers (4-5, 0-2 USA South) entered the final period tied at 38-38 before MU used a 15-1 run to open the stanza and take a commanding 53-39 lead with 5:30 left to play.
Jasmine Canady opened the period with a steal and layup, and
Allison Dones followed with a three pointer for a 43-38 lead.

Alexia Hines hit 3-of-4 free throws to push the Green and Gold advantage to 46-38 before the Pacers' DeJah Cheatham momentarily halted MU's run when she split a pair of free throws at the 7:33 mark. Methodist ran off the next seven points, including a three-point play by
Ayanna Pegues and MU coasted down the stretch.

Both teams struggled from the field in their first action of the new year. Methodist shot an even 30.0 percent (18-60) from the field, and William Peace shot 30.9 percent (17-55). MU was 27-of-39 from the free-throw line, while the Pacers shot 50.0 percent (15-30). The Monarchs held a decided edge on the glass, 51-39, including 22-12 on the offensive glass.

Hines and Pegues led the Monarchs with 14 points apiece. Hines hit 10-of-12 free throws, and Pegues was 6-of-8 from the line. Canady added 13 points for MU, to go along with three steals and three assists.
Jalisia Campbell chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds.

For the Pacers, Brittany Boykin had 12 points, four assists and four steals. Susannah Sykes chipped in 11 points, while Alexis Armstrong had seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Methodist is back in action on Wednesday when it host Mary Baldwin at 5:30 pm.
