LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Methodist women's basketball team fell at Transylvania, 74-50, on Sunday afternoon at the Clive Beck Center.

The Monarchs (1-5) fell behind early as the Pioneers (3-1) took a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter (19-9) and eventually a 37-18 lead at halftime.
Jalisia Campbell, who was named to the All-Tournament team for the Monarchs, pulled down a team-best eight rebounds and added 11 points.
Christian Sanders and
Kaneya Chambers each scored a team-high 13 points for the Monarchs. Sanders also added four steals.

Celia Kline led Transylvania with a game-high 29 points on 10 of 19 shooting, including 9 of 13 from behind the arc. Taylor Jackson added 11 points, and Rachel Cox chipped in nine points and 12 rebounds.

The Monarchs held TU to just 32.9 percent shooting from the field (23-70), but the Pioneers hit on 13 of 36 attempts from long range (.361) and held a 55-37 edge on the glass, 23-13 on the offensive side. Transy also made 15 of 16 free-throw attempts to 10 of 6 shooting for the Monarchs.

After the Pioneers opened up a 13-point lead fewer than six minutes into the contest, MU battled back and got within seven (16-9) on a pair of free throws by
Niki Mumphery with 1:38 left in the first quarter as TU lead 19-9 after one.

Cline's triple was the first scoring of the second period and made it 22-9 in favor of the hosts, and the Pioneers never led by fewer than 13 the remainder of the way.

Methodist is back on the court on Wednesday as it plays host to Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00 pm.
