A back and forth contest in the first half turned in MU's favor midway through the period. Trailing 21-20 with 10:42 showing on the clock, the Monarchs used a 19-10 run to take a 39-31 lead with 1:24 to play en route to a 40-33 lead at halftime.

Following the media timeout with 2:51 to play, Whitley responded with a dunk and then added a pair of free throws to move MU's lead back to 13 points and the Monarchs coasted from there.
