LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Methodist men's basketball team outscored Randolph College 13-2 over the game's final 5:21 in earning a 63-58 win over the WildCats at the RAD Center on Tuesday evening.

The WildCats (2-5) led 56-50 with 5:21 to play following a three-point play by Chas VanHorn. On MU's ensuing possession
Blake Davis came up empty on a three-point attempt, but
Irving Aughburns came up with a quick steal and
Davion Ayabarreno hit on a layup to make it 56-52 with 4:48 on the clock. Ayabarreno's layup would be one of six shots in a row MU made to close out the contest.
Rae Hall, who scored a game-high 18 points for the Monarchs, added a layup to make it a 56-54 contest, and his jumper at 3:30 tied the game at 56-56.

The WildCats inched ahead 58-56 on Ryan Fields' layup 30 seconds later, but a three-point play by Hall with under two minutes to play gave MU a 59-58 lead. Following a missed layup by Fields, Ayabarreno scored from inside for a three-point lead (61-58) with 1:13 on the clock.

Fields attempted to tie the contest with a triple but was off the mark and Aughburns secured the rebound. Hall missed on a three late in the shot clock on MU's ensuing possession and Randolph came away with the rebound. Out of a time out, Colton Lee on one final chance to tie the game, but his trey with three seconds to play missed and after securing the defensive rebound,
Blake Davis made good on a pair of free throws with one second to play to seal the contest.

The Monarchs had trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half and held a lead in final 20 minutes for only 2:06.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball as MU hit 36.7 percent (22-60) of its shot attempts and Randolph checked in at 37.3 percent (22-59). The Monarchs got to the line 16 times and converted 14 charity tosses (.875). Randolph, also shot 87.5 percent from the line, but shot just 7 of 8.

In addition to his 18 points, Hall added six boards and Ayabarreno totaled 17 points, including 8 of 9 shooting from the line.
Jackson Whitley added nine points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Fields led Randolph with 13 points and six rebounds, while Brian Smith added 12 points and six boards. Reid Jacoby had eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Monarchs will now play host to Guilford on Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm.
