FERRUM, Va. -- The Methodist baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Ferrum on Saturday afternoon.

Methodist fell, 6-1, in game one as FC's Jake Perkins allowed just one hit over 8.0 innings, and then fell, 6-2 in game two.

In the opener, Perkins was in control throughout, allowing just one run on one hit and four walks with 10 strikeouts in his 8.0 innings. He struck out the first two batters that he faced to set the tone. Ferrum got on the board as Austin Winkles led off the first with a double then stole third. Ty Comer drove in Winkles with a sac fly.

The Monarchs tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth as
Ray Lanners singled with one out, and moved to second when
Davis Cass was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch moved both runners up 90 feet, and
Alex Dockery's RBI groundout scored Lanners.

Ferrum regained the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the frame before tallying four runs, including a two-run double from Comer, and a two-run homer from Lane Deaver to cap the scoring.

Travis Johnson allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings to fall to 2-1 on the season. Dockery walked twice for MU, and Lanners was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Winkles was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs, Comer was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Deaver finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

In the nightcap, Ferrum raced out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and coasted to the win.

Winkles opened the scoring with a solo home run, and Deaver added an unearned run on an RBI single for a 2-0 lead as FC took a 3-0 lead after one. In the second frame, Comer drove in a run with a single, and Deaver continued his strong play with an RBI double for a 5-0 lead.

Methodist got on the board in the sixth on
Lucas Scott's RBI single, and MU made it 5-2 on another RBI base hit by Scott in the sixth.

Tyler Hardee took the loss for MU, allowing six runs (4 ER) on 10 hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
Â
Scott finished with a pair of singles and two RBIs.
Alex Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and
Stephen Nalls finished 1-for-4 with a walk.

Methodist and Ferrum wrap up their three game series on Sunday.
