RALEIGH, N.C. – The Methodist women's basketball team fell 77-63 to William Peace on Saturday evening at the Hermann Athletic Center.
Three players tallied double-digit scoring, including
Christian Sanders who finished with 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the field. She also added five rebounds, three rebounds, one block and a steal in 32 minutes off the bench.
Jalisia Campbell recorded 15 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while
Kaneya Chambers ended the night with 12 points.
For the Pacers (11-3, 4-1), Nadine Ealey tallied a game-high 22 points on 9 of 17 shooting from the floor and also added nine rebounds and six assists. Makayla Ray finished with a double-double with14 points and 13 rebounds, while Tyler Mercer posted eight points to go along with 12 assists.
In the first quarter, WPU opened up a 10-2 lead nearly midway through the period, before the Monarchs (3-12, 1-3) hit four of their next six shots to cut the lead to two (10-8). The Pacers were able to build a seven-point lead before a layup from
Amber Scott at the end of the quarter made the score 21-18. Near the end of the second period of play, William Peace opened up a 10-point advantage (38-29), but six-consecutive points from Sanders narrowed the deficit to four points before the Pacers took a 44-36 lead into halftime.
The two sides alternated scoring In the third quarter before Sanders' third three-pointer of the game narrowed the lead to six points (54-48) with over two minutes left in the period, but WPU went on a 13-3 run and walked away with the victory, 77-63.
MU ended the game shooting at a 43.9 percent clip (25-57) from the floor, while William Peace finished at 43.4 percent (33-76) after making 51.4 percent (19-37) of its shots in the first half. The Pacers also held a 46-36 advantage on the glass.
Allison Dones finished with six assists to along with three steals, while
Sydney Bryan added three rebounds and three blocks.
The Monarchs return to action on Sunday, Jan. 22, as they return home to face Greensboro at 3 pm.
