MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Methodist women's soccer team held on to a 1-0 win against Covenant in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament on Friday evening.

With the win, the Monarchs, who are the No. 4 seed in the East, are now 8-10 on the season. Meanwhile, the Scots, who entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the West, finish their season 11-7-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Monarchs tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 49th minute. Coming off a corner kick from
Cheyenne Ferrin,
Sara Snotherly let a pass back to
Emily Borel who notched her fourth goal of the year, 1-0. Covenant had just three shots in the second half as opposed to 10 from MU.

During the first period of play, the Monarchs held the Scots without a shot and put up 10 of their own, including five on goal.

Emily Benton stopped both shots that she faced, while Rachel Lemay made nine saves in the loss.

The Monarchs outshot the Scots by a 20-3 margin, while also holing CC without a corner kick and taking eight.

Methodist faces Meredith tomorrow, Nov. 4, in the USA South Tournament Championship game in Maryville, Tenn., beginning at 6 pm.
