FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Three Methodist players reached double figures in scoring, including a pair of double-doubles, as the women's basketball team produced an 85-63 win over Mary Baldwin on Saturday afternoon.

Kodi Centry scored a team-high 16 points to lead MU (1-4, 1-0 USA South) and
Kayla Goldsmith (14 pts/10 reb) and
Amber Scott (12 pts/10 reb) each recorded their first-career double-doubles in the Monarchs' first win of the season.

Aayana Nedd led the Fighting Squirrels (1-5, 0-1) with a game-high 27 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists, while Cauya Duboise chipped in 10 points and five boards.

The Monarchs got 37 points from its bench, forced 19 turnovers and held MBU to 34.4 percent shooting (21-61) in the win.

A 14-2 run by the Monarchs in the first half turned a 10-9 lead into a 24-11 lead with 8:21 left in the second quarter.
Christian Sanders started the run with a three late in the first quarter, Scott added five points in the middle of the run and Goldsmith capped the burst with back-to-back buckets.

The Fighting Squirrels recovered from the run and managed to keep contact with the Monarchs, trailing by just nine points (46-37) midway through the third quarter. However, the Monarchs sealed the contest with a 21-8 run to go up 67-45 with 9:15 left to play. Eight different Monarchs contributed over the span as MU was able to take control of the contest.

As a team, Methodist shot 40.0 percent (32-80) from the floor and 16 of 20 (.800) from the line. The Monarchs were also +20 (56-36) on the glass and never trailed.

Methodist will play host to Ferrum on Sunday beginning at 3 pm.
