DEMOREST, Ga. -- Piedmont College earned an 82-42 win over the Methodist women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Cancer Awareness Tournament at Cave Arena.

The Lions used a strong performance in the second and third quarters to improve to 10-1 on the season while MU fell to 1-9 overall.

Piedmont held a five-point edge, 14-9, after the first quarter of play by surged ahead by outscoring the Monarchs 26-5 in the second period for a , 40-14 edge at halftime, then outpaced MU 29-10 in the third period to extend its lead. The Lions were opportunistic, scoring 38 points off 28 Methodist turnovers and getting 54 points from its bench.

Kayla Goldsmith led the Monarchs with seven points and seven rebounds.
Christian Sanders added eight points, and
Amber Scott chipped in five points and four boards.

As a team, the Monarchs shot 35.4 percent (17-48) from the field and pulled down 38 rebounds. Piedmont shot 41.7 percent (30-72) from the floor and had 42 rebounds.

Jatasia Bailey led PC with 13 points and added three steals. Jalen Davis had 11 points, hitting on 3 of 4 three-point attempts. In all, 13 different Lions made the scoring column.

Methodist is back in action next Saturday at Salem beginning at 2 pm.
