DANVILLE, Va. -- The Methodist women's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 77-48 loss to Greensboro in the first round of the USA South Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday evening at Averett University.

Christian Sanders closed out a strong freshman season with a team-high 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals to lead the Monarchs (7-19).
Jalisia Campbell scored seven points, and
Sydney Bryan chipped in six points, three blocks and three steals.

Monica Smalls paced the Pride with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Rasheika Gregory added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Katie Lewis contributed 11 points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench.

The Pride seized control of the contest early, outscoring MU 21-5 in the first quarter. Greensboro hit 9 of its first 16 shots from the floor and forced the Monarchs into 2 of 8 shooting with nine turnovers over the opening 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, Greensboro continued to apply the pressure, outscoring the Monarchs, 23-15, en route to a 44-20 lead at the break. Bryan opened the scoring in the third quarter with a layup for MU, but an 8-0 run by Greensboro helped the Pride to a 19-8 scoring advantage in the quarter.

For the game, the Monarchs shot 31.4 percent (16-51) from the floor, and 50.0 percent from the line (12-24), with 31 rebounds. Greensboro checked in at 44.3 percent shooting (31-70) from the field and 62.5 percent (10-16) shooting from the line with 51 rebounds.
