Jalisia Campbell had a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds, but the Methodist women's basketball team fell at Ferrum, 65-46, on Sunday afternoon.

Kaneya Chambers added 10 points and five rebounds for the Monarchs and
Allison Dones handed out six assists for the Monarchs (6-16, 4-7 USA South).

Zarkia Mattox had a double-double for 18 points and 15 rebounds to go with seven assists for Ferrum (15-7, 10-1). Maggie Self scored a game-high 21 points, and Erin March chipped in 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.

The Panthers never trailed in the contest, and used an 11-4 run in the first quarter to turn an 8-4 lead into a 19-8 advantage with under three minutes to play in the opening period.

Ferrum's lead reached as many as 13 points in the first quarter but MU kept the Panthers in sight and managed to pull to within three (37-34) with 5:46 left in the third quarter on a jumper by Campbell. The Monarchs entered the fourth quarter trailing 45-38, but Ferrum opened the final 10 minutes on an 11-2 run to take a 56-40 lead by the 7:55 mark.

Methodist shot 28.3 percent (17-60) from the floor and 43.8 percent (7-16) from the line. Ferrum countered at 37.3 percent (22-59) from the field and 63.2 percent (12-19) from the line. The Panthers also held a 47-43 edge in rebounding and each team turned the ball over just 10 times.

Methodist and Ferrum will meet again on Wednesday in Fayetteville beginning at 5:30 pm.
