FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist baseball team dropped a 6-3 contest against Hampden-Sydney at Armstrong-Shelley Field on Wednesday afternoon.

With the result, the Monarchs fall to 10-7 on the year. Meanwhile, the Tigers improve to 9-3 overall.

Hampden-Sydney scored first in the opening frame. Brian Goodwyn reached base on an error before coming around to score on a groundout to the right side of the infield, 1-0. The Monarchs responded in the home half of the second inning.
Pete Wildeboer led off with an infield single that was hit near the shortstop. He moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by
Tucker Criswell and came around to score on a double to right field by
Lucas Scott, 1-1.
Kevin Williams followed with an RBI double of his own after the ball hit off the glove of a diving outfielder, 2-1.

The Tigers took the lead again in the top of the third when Goodwyn belted a lead-off home run to left field, 2-2. Tyler Blevins reached base on fielder's choice before moving from first to third on consecutive wild pitches before scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field, 3-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Wildeboer reached base and came around to score on a double to right-center field by Criswell to tie the game at 3-3. Hampden-Sydney plated three runners in the visitor's half of the eighth inning on three hits and help on for the victory, 6-3.

Noah Dawson (1-2) was strapped with the loss after allowing three runs (earned) on three hits in 0.1 innings on the mound.
Tyler Carmen got the start and yielded one run (unearned) on one hit in 1.0 inning. Nine pitchers took to the hill for the Monarchs on Wednesday. Trey Celata (3-0) received the win after tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits and struck out two batters. Jayson Maitland (3) recorded the save after pitching the ninth inning and allowing just two walks.

Criswell was 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI, while Williams was 2 for 2 with an RBI as well. Wildeboer scored two runs and
Davis Cass tallied two hits in the loss.

Methodist returns to action on Saturday, March 11, with a doubleheader at Greensboro with the first game scheduled for 1 pm.
